What are the Seven Chakras and how to activate them ?

The astral body has seven energy centers known as chakras, placed along the spine from the base up to the crown of the head. Since these disks of spinning energy are associated with groups of nerves and major organs, they have a significant role in both physical and emotional well-being. As is the case with the balance of the three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha - a well state of being requires that the chakras be open and balanced.

The Seven Chakras:

Root Chakra (Muladhara): Base of the spine

Sacral Chakra (Swadishthana): Below the navel

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Stomach region

Heart Chakra (Anahata): Center of the chest

Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi): Throat area

Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Between the eyebrows

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Top of the head

Open and balanced chakras are important to physical stabilization and emotional stability. A combination of practices such as yoga, mudras, and mantras helps in the implementation of the balance, which energizes the body and prompts certain responses.

Yoga Positions:

Precise executions of certain yoga asanas can powerfully activate and realign the chakras, which is as follows:

1. Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

This foundational position links you to the ground and makes you more aware of your surroundings. It enhances coordination, posture, agility, and blood flow while it does develop the muscle strength in legs, back, and hips.

2. Veerabhadrasana (Warrior Pose)

A strong standing position that grounds the person's energy, opens up the root chakra, and charges him or her to awaken all-round vitality. It reinforces the legs, opens the hips, thereby helping the lower back and increases focus, balance, and steadiness.

3. Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose)

This dynamic postures will stimulate multiple chakras such as throat, solar plexus, heart, and the root chakras. Physically, it alleviates stress, improves circulation, digestion, and energizes abdominal organs, lungs, and thyroid.

Practicing these poses learned in classes such as 100 hour, 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh helps you connect deeper with the chakras and related benefits.

Mudras:

Mudras are hand gestures that channel prana, life energy, to activate and balance the chakras. Here are specific mudras for every chakra:

1. Muladhara (Root Chakra):

Sit up straight and concentrate on the perineum. Make circles with your thumbs and forefingers, put your hands on your knees, palms upward and breathe 7–10 deep breaths.

2. Swadishthana (Sacral Chakra):

Visualize the chakra at the location just below your navel. You are to place your right hand over the left, palms up, and cross your thumbs one over another, touching. Breathe heavily for 7–10 repetitions.

3. Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra):

Pay attention to the solar plexus. Cross your thumbs over each other to create a "V," then cross your fingers so that your fingertips meet forward. Breathe deeply for 7-10 cycles.

4. Anahata (Heart Chakra):

Concentrate on your Heart Center. Use your thumb and forefinger of your left hand to make circles, raise your right hand to your chest, and breathe deep for 7-10 repetitions.

5. Vishuddhi (Throat Chakra)

Fix your concentration at the base of the throat. Make a circle by touching the thumbs together; the fingers are lightly crossed, and raise your hands to your neck or place them on your lap. Repeat for 7-10 breaths.

6. Ajna (Third Eye Chakra):

Close your eyes and focus on the point between your eyebrows. Cross all your thumbs and forefingers with your pinkies and ring fingers, forming a heart. Then take your middle fingers and bring them to the top to crown it. Take deep breathing for 7-10 rounds.

7. Sahasrara (Crown Chakra):

Pay attention to the top of your head. Cross fingers in with the left, thumb beneath the right, bring fingers up to make a crown shape with your ring fingers. Take 7–10 deep breaths. Can hold above the head or let hands rest on your lap.
